The beginning of the journey

My 50th birthday cake
6 February 2014

I’ve recently reached 50.  I started running less than three years ago.  As I’ve met other runners I’ve realised that many of them, like me, only started running in their forties.  I’ve also been inspired by the older women runners in their fifties, sixties and seventies who make me think that I can keep running for the rest of my life (or at least a good part of the rest of it!).

Through this blog I aim to investigate some questions about older women and running, including:

How many women over 50 are running?  What gets women into running?  What motivates women to carry on running into their fifties and sixties and beyond?  How does women’s participation in running change over time?

I hope you will be interested to join me on this journey.  I look forward to meeting a lot of interesting people along the way…
